Aspiring Medford High School student , Deion Gill, heads to LA.
My grandson, Deion,16, has been singing, composing, engineering his own music and as a singer and rap artist. Currently, there are people in LA who are interested in him and he flew out there several months ago with his dad, and they signed him to a managerial contract. He has now been involved with professional people who are truly excited about what they are hearing and seeing in him. So, they are introducing him to important producers who will most likely produce him. I am so proud and excited for him and wish him luck..
I think it’s wonderful. I think with the people who are seriously behind him his chances are good that he will be successful.
Here is a interview written about him from his Medford High School newspaper in Medford, MA.

Mustang News: So tell me a little bit about yourself.
Deion Gill: Welp, my name is Deion Gill, I’m originally from Boston, MA, but I’ve lived in Georgia and South Carolina. A month ago, I recently moved to Los Angeles to pursue my musical career with my manager Simone.
MN: When did you start making music?
DG: I started making beats and rapping with my cousin when I was 12 years old, but it wasn’t until I was about 14 when I started singing and posting videos on YouTube. I used to chat all of my friends on Facebook the links to my songs and post them everywhere I could, and eventually my videos got into the thousands… Now my about 3 or 4 of my videos have over 30,000 views and counting.
MN: When did you decide to think about music as a career?
DG: Well, I was never really sure what I wanted to do with my life before I started making music, and then when I started to make music and videos and get more serious, I knew that this would be the one thing I would do with my life and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do anything else.
MN: How did you end up in LA?
DG: I used to work with a rapper from Toronto via email and sending tracks back and forth, and he eventually put me in contact with a manager named Simone in LA. He eventually flew me out to LA for about 3 weeks and before I had left he had become my official manager. Now I’m back in LA to work on my music as a full time career.
MN: Do you enjoy it there?
DG: Absolutely! I love LA weather, LA people… But just not LA traffic… Lol
MN: What inspires you most in your life? Aspiring MHS student Deion Gill, heads to LA
DG: First and foremost God… But after that it would probably be my grandfather. He’s been a jazz singer for a few decades now, and pretty much encouraged me to play instruments and sing when I was little. And my family of course, they’ve been so strong through any problem that comes their way, which inspires me to pull through the hard times and make it to where I want to be in life.
MN: What or who inspires you most in your music?
DG: Some of the people that inspire me most in my music are producers like Pharrell, Kanye West, Timberland and The J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. But I also listen to older music from the 60′s and 70′s to be able to get a feel for the soul in music.
MN: I know that you produce your own music most of the time, so what was it like having someone else work for you?
DG: It’s really great to be able to work with somebody who I know is on the same page as me when it comes to my music. I really enjoy being able to just vibe out and pass ideas back and forth with people in the studio.
MN: Do you like working with a producer or working as your own? (plans to produce in the future)
DG: I really enjoy both positions as producer and artist. Sometimes its good to be able to produce the sound thatyou can’t find anywhere else, but other times you won’t be able to find the sound you want yourself, so you can look to others to find that sound for you. So either way, it’s a win-win.
MN: Biggest moment so far in LA?
DG: Just being able to make the music I’ve always wanted to make is probably the best out of all the things I’ve done here. I really enjoy being in the studio and around other musical peers.
MN: See any celebrities yet?
DG: Of course! This is LA man, you can’t go an hour without seeing an actor walking down the street… Haha
MN: Do you miss Medford?
DG: I really do. I can’t wait to be able to visit sometime soon and see everyone in Medford.
MN: Any shout outs and thank yous?
DG: Shouts out to the homies: Tex, DJ M$n3y, Squeekz, Duffy, EA, Chuck Meezy, Hoovooloo, Caitlyn, Isaburr, Mr. Heinegg, and the rest of the crew, yo!
